As mentioned in the previous news article, the EPS Environmental mountaineering team successfully conquered the highest mountain in Ireland. Our accounts department did a quick calculation of the amount raised on Friday morning before setting off down south and managed to pick up a huge blank cheque on the way. That evening, the team were in good spirits relaxing in the hotel bar and lobby. We were jotting down the details on the cheque when a couple from down under innocently asked what all the commotion was about. Not wanting to miss an opportunity, Michelle was quick to give a rundown of what we were doing; reliably informing them that the account has not yet closed and all donations are still welcome!! €50 later, the two girls were allowed to pass through the 20 strong mob of EPS Environmental mountaineers unscathed! Only joking of course, having been informed of the two charities benefiting, the girls were only too glad to donate. EPS Environmental would like to thank both Caz & Carmel Melbourne for their generosity and hope they enjoy the rest of their stay in Ireland (hopefully without too many more paddies asking for their spending money!!).
Another big thank you has to go out to Denis Mc Elligott from EPS for being our mountain guide for the day. As a veteran of the Kerry Mountains he was invaluable on the day (even though he made us go up the devils ladder!!). The man must be noted as having the patience of a saint as I’m sure he could have managed the walk in half the time that it took us on the day! Add to the fact that Rory drunk all of his tea and Declan kicked over his lunch at the top of the mountain, we’re thankful he didn’t throw us off a cliff! Many thanks big man, same again next year?!?!
